Token Black Girl

One of my goals for 2023 is to read books by authors from underrepresented groups. I recently read Token Black girl, in which Danielle Prescod shares her journey of growing up as a black woman in a white community, before choosing a career into the fashion industry.

It explores themes including identity, privilege, beauty standards and toxic workplace culture amongst others. I enjoyed the book for its candour, but was left feeling frustrated by lack of progress that we’ve made over the past 20 years in celebrating and encouraging diversity.
